i wanna watch "the godfather"

ok, so i haven’t watched lotsa movies in my lifetime.  and the reason for that would simply be because my parents banned movie-watching while i was growing up.  the extent of my movie watching was the occasional video that my mom would borrow from the library, things such as “pollyanna” and “benji” and “sound of music” which i’ve watched time and time and time again because nothing else was deemed worthy, especially if it was anything rated higher than “g”.

so… this leaves me where i’m at right now, where i haven’t watched “the godfather”.

now, i mentioned that fact last week, and perry said, “yah, cuz you’re not a guy!”

then, earlier this week, i heard some students teasing this one guy, saying “WHAT?!?!  YOU’VE NEVER SEEN THE GODFATHER?!!  HE’S NEVER SEEN THE GODFATHER!!!” and then everyone chimed in… and i was like, “yay!  i haven’t seen the godfather either, i’m not the only one!”

and everyone said, “that’s different.  you’re a girl!”

and i’m thinking, “hello, people!!!  sexists!!!” y’all don’t know that i’ve wanted to watch the godfather for the longest time but i just never had much movie watching experience growing up and so i wanna get all caught up on all these classics that i’ve never seen and so that means one of these days (soon, hopefully) i’ll be able to sit down and watch the godfather, parts I, II, and III.  i’m looking forward to it… sheesh… just because i’m a girl doesn’t mean i don’t wanna watch those types of movies!

so, anyone wanna do a movie marathon with me?

ate kris' & kuya sean's baby shower

ate kris & kuya sean are gonna have a baby in a couple of weeks… so the family got together and had a lotta fun hanging out and having weird games where kuya glenn was cheating and everyone was laughing their heads off.  it was fun… good times with family =)

kuya glenn went a little bit overboard with the baby decorations… and he was sweaty enough to have it stick on his face!!!  ewww!!!!

auntie esther’s family - jenny and kedian, with their son d’mitri and daughter jordan, and judy and nathan

kami & josh, who was cool enough to go up to ed cabanatan and ask him what his name was.  and kami and ate shirley (in that other picture with my cousins) were mistaken for sisters!  ate’s like, um… 25 years older than her?  or something like that.  apparently people think that kuya garry and taylor are siblings as well… weirdness…

afterwards we went to ate nadine’s house and hung out and played cranium and stuff… here’s auntie zeny, cole, taylor, joshua, ate becky, ate donna, connor, kuya (my brother), griffin, and andy.

hanging out with laurie

laurie was out here for an interview and so we got to hang out, just chilling at citrus plaza and talking out there on the patio.  i got to treat her out to the oh-so-infamous maria’s that i always talk about! she had a burrito… which i thought was hilarious that she remembered it from that picture i posted months ago!  it was neat to be able to catch up with her and hang out… i’m sorta really hoping she lands out here in loma linda cuz that would just be too cool!  it wouldn’t be months in between we’d see each other.... and i think that would just be awesome =)

oh how fun my school is!!

today was a workshop friday.  this means that while i’m helping my students alter pictures using photoshop, kim’s having the students play volleyball, gabriela assists in all sorts of fabric making/sewing/knitting/textile stuff, and david’s teaching ‘em to breakdance in the room next to mine.  it’s pretty cool to see what the students can do… and today at my prompt of “do you know how to do the chinese get up?” the students took it outside onto the grass… and then we ended up having a whole buncha fun out there!

here’s david (art teacher) jumping through the hula hoop

and kim (science teacher) jumping through the hula hoop

david (sophomore) jumping through the hula hoop

gus (senior) diving through the hula hoop

my school’s so fun!  i love it there =)

happy birthday, mom!

when i was younger, i had no concept of age.  i mean, the age of “old people”.  and that really referred to anyone in the double digits.  if you weren’t a kid, then you just fell into the general category of “adult”, unless you were a grandparent, and then you were just ancient.  hahaha… yeah…

so anyways, when i was 7 years old, my mom turned 40, and i thought that she’d be happy to celebrate another birthday!  after all, i loved my birthdays!  and then i saw that she really wasn’t all -that- happy to be celebrating, and i couldn’t figure out why.  she just told me that she didn’t wanna turn 40.  i guess that was too old for her.  and since i had no concept of age, i just simply told her,

“Don’t worry mom, you don’t look 40!  You only look 39!!!”

hahaha.... yeah, i had no idea i’d make her laugh that much!!!

anyways, today it is her birthday, and i know that she’s living it up!  she totally embraces her age now, and that’s one of the things i love about her.  she lives life to the fullest and makes the most of each moment, and i think that has led her to love her age - it reflects her experiences and how much she has enjoyed life!

happy birthday, mom!  may you continue to enjoy many more years of life!

cousins

a couple’a weekends ago my uncle had this big church service here in loma linda and afterwards some family stopped by kuya garry’s house just to hang out and chill with each other.  here’s just a few of us:  jackie, james, and jaylene in the front left, kuya garry behind them, me, and ate shirley next to me.

y’know, growing up everyone thought i was a younger version of ate shirley, and that she looked like my older sister.  so, sometimes i think that’s what i’ll look like ‘when i grow up’ =)

i'm so glad rita is home

i don’t have any pictures of us together, but rita has been great to hang out with these past few days.  she took me to watch a movie on saturday night and we also did our sunday manileno family get-together and we went to costco to get pictures developed, mostly her last roll from the philippines.  it’s so nice to have her back =) while at manileno her mom asked me if i was okay the whole three weeks that she was away, and i laughed cuz i thought that was a funny question.  of course i was okay while she was away!  but still, even though i can take care of myself living alone, i have to admit that i’m so glad that she’s here to hang out with.

a lot on my mind - update

so… when i woke up this saturday morning, i didn’t have an appetite cuz of all that was on my mind.  i was so preoccupied with my thoughts that i couldn’t think about eating.  and now, through a lot of thinking, i’ve come up with pages of writing.  unfortunately, it’s not for my blog, so i won’t post it here.  it instead is for me, for notes to organize and remember all the thoughts and conclusions that i’ve been able to figure out today, and to use as a guide to help me share my thoughts with those it affects.

and amazingly, once i finished writing those two pages, i totally scarfed down all my leftovers from all the meals i didn’t eat today.  it’s amazing how much my appetite can return once my mind has been cleared.  and even though i’ve already returned to what i had written and added several key points to it, i know that i have the gist of it figured out and i believe that what i’ve written should express myself the right way.  hopefully.  oh goody, part of the anxiety is coming back… but seriously, i think i’ve made lotsa progress today just by talking it out to myself, and i think i’m ready to share part of it now.

a lot on my mind

i’ve been looking at my blog archives and i realize i’ve totally cut down on my posts, as compared to when i first started blogging, when i was decidedly committed to posting a photo a day, if not a detailed description of what was going on when i took the photo, and also my thoughts on the daily happenings of my life.

however, now, it looks like i’m lucky if i post twice in a week.  i’m gonna break outta habit and post for the 4th time this week.  yay!

i’ve had so much to say and so much on my mind and that’s the reason… hmmm, no, i’m gonna have to revise that statement.  i’ve had so much on my mind and haven’t figured out what i wanna say about it, and THAT’S the reason.  i can’t make up my mind what i’m thinking or how i feel about it… just that i’m all mixed up about how i feel about everything.  ok, so -everything- might be an exaggeration, but still, it just seems like i’ve been preoccupied and lost in my thoughts.  and of course, i’m thinking about relationships, mostly the one with God, but also with my parents, and just also in general.

so, i guess i’m just throwing that out there - that i’ve had a lot to think about and sort out and i suppose when i’m done i’ll probably be spilling some of my conclusions here but that all depends on what my final thoughts are.  and mostly, i guess i’m just finally willing to let people in… and ask for some thoughts/prayers/encouragement and possibly even some heart-to-heart conversations if you’re the type that typically does that with me.

but for the rest of you, i’ll settle for a comment.  =)

so there.

tumataba

blame it on my twisted ankle, blame it on my bum knee.  blame it on the cold weather and my preference for going home at 4:30 and crawling under the quilt on my couch with a tasty snack.  oh heck, just blame it on my laziness and my penchant for eating… whatever the case, i’ve gained enough weight that the first thing my aunt does when she sees me is to pat my arm and say “tumataba”, which i can only translate as “you’re getting fat!!!” nice, real nice…

now, i know that my weight fluctuates as the seasons come and go… and i’m the first to admit that compared to my eating habits, i’m still rail thin - if i were to look like that amount of food i eat, i would be twice my size by now!  however, not too long ago, i stepped on a scale (which, admittedly, was a big mistake) and realized that since the beginning of the school year, which was approximately the time that i stopped attending gym nights due to my bad ankle, trying to let it heal, i’d actually gained 20 pounds!  yessirree, you read me correctly - that’s TWENTY POUNDS!

and normally i don’t care about my weight at all since my weight jumps all over the place as if it were a kid in a bounce house, but now, NOW, when my clothes start to not fit right, and NOW, when even a saleslady laughed at me and told me to go up two sizes (i’m SO not exaggerating here!! just ask kat or susan!), well… then… i have to admit that it’s time to start getting back into shape.

thankfully, for me, rita has come back to town (back from living in washington during the week, and back from a 3-week-long vacation in the philippines).  she’s gonna start getting in shape for her wedding in september, and as her roomie, i have the distinct privilege of being her first choice for a workout partner.

so here we go folks!!  this is the first time i’m attempting some type of diet.  or rather, maybe just a workout regimen will do the trick without having to cut back on what i eat =) hahahah… lookat that, i haven’t even started yet, and i want off it!  hahahah.... well… i’m sure with rita dragging me along, i’ll start feeling more active, and maybe i can start fitting into my normal clothes again =)

happy valentines day!

we thought we’d celebrate valentines day early (since there was a good chance that we wouldn’t get to see each other due to work and stuff), so we made a day of it and went out to koreatown for some bulgogi and then afterwards hit up the clippers-bulls game on sunday, feb 12.

we originally bought our tickets for the 300 level but perry didn’t like it up there (i’m so used to it already, being a cheapskate and only buying $10 seats!) but because he didn’t like being so far up, i dragged him down to section 109 during half-time and we just grabbed two available seats.  he was pretty paranoid about it, made us look -totally- conspicuous, but we were able to sit in the lower levels for the entire second half =)

perry’s smiling cuz his bulls beat my clippers… ughh… it was a fluke, i tell you!!!  and no, the bulls still haven’t made it to 8th place!  darn… it was a close game and they kept on switching leads but for some reason the clippers weren’t playing like they wanted to win - with such a small lead (they were only down by 4 points) and just a little bit of time left, they would let the bulls walk it down with absolutely no back-court pressure and run out all 24 seconds on the shot clock and they basically lost because they didn’t play defense or get rebounds… *sigh*

so even though the clippers lost, and i lost my bet and i owe perry, it was a good date… so happy valentines day to y’all!

snowboarding at summit

on monday, i took my “winterim” group to snow summit.  winterim is a special time at our school, where we take a break between 1st and 2nd semesters and do activities all week - the ony stipulation is that the week must be planned and organized by the students.  our group is known as the mammoth group, but we didn’t make it all the way to mammoth this week =( we’re just doing local activities.  that’s all right, we had fun this monday at summit…

perry helped chaperone our group, and he helped me teach sarah and celeste how to snowboard.

this is sarah

and this is celeste

jesse learned how to snowboard on our last trip 2 weeks ago, and he was already trying jumps in the park!  but this was funny - he actually took down the sign for the park by running into it!!!  hahahah....

go speed racer, go!!
