li'l kids are so expressive!

so i heard this story from my aunt the other day… yeah, it’s a kid story, but it’s also a little bit gross, so consider yourself warned!

my 3 year old nephew ate something that disagreed with him and ended up having diarrhea.  his mom didn’t know the situation as she sat him down on the toilet, and as he sat there, the diarrhea escaped him at quite some force.

he turned to his mom and said, “mommy!  my poo made suka!"

apparently, saying that his poo ‘just vomited’ was the best description he had!

currently enjoying xkcd.com

thanks to jay for this link!  it’s a comic blog of some physics guy who uses math, language, and just nerdy humor involving eclectic pop culture.  i totally love it!  and i’ve so gotta do these first two comics i’m linking to.  how nerdy am i?  =) hahhaha…

hope you enjoy!

congratulations, jason!

so my cousin jason is now a police officer.

all i can think of is him pulling someone over, the car stopping, the driver rolling the window down, his 6’3” intimidating body strolling up to the car, looking down at the driver, and then making a joke!

“yeah… jason, a cop?” “he’s so gentle!” “so not serious!”

but yep, after going thru 6 months of police boot camp, he’s graduated!  and ready to hit the streets of south central LA.  as LAPD.  wow!

without further ado, here are some pics:

jason with his family

and with his graduating class (he’s the one with the lei on!)

officer delgado showed up on his bike

and the oh-so-serious jason with his graduation cake

and the rest of the pics are here

congratulations again!

just for laura (aka pictures of my condo)

soo.... i bought this condo in january but it took a while to unpack the boxes (the ones in the house - there are still some in the garage to sort through!) and start decorating.  so although it’s already june, i would like to introduce you to my new place =)

walking up to the condo (the garage is detached and is in the far left of the picture, and my car is parked right in front of the garage)

walking in the first thing you see is the staircase going upstairs, slightly to the left.  at the top of the stairs is where the brand new maytag washer and dryer are hidden behind those doors, but let’s not go upstairs yet.

to the right of the entrance would be jill’s bedroom and bathroom.  i didn’t take pics of jill’s bedroom but here’s a pic of her bathroom from her shower area.  she is so martha stewart she made that orchid decoration and got all matching bathroom stuff.

continuing in past the stairs and into the living room i put up a hammock i got in ensenada, my chinese lanterns (the one with dark leaves from chinatown, the one with the white leaves from china) and my star lanterns from granada, spain.

but if you continue in you come to the living room with its faux fireplace.  not true, it’s a gas fireplace, but you can’t burn real wood in there.  not like i ‘wood’ with the white carpet… the decorations hanging over the sliding glass door are left over from the sweet 16 party we threw for jill’s sister (about 2 months ago!) and rita left her signature red on the back patio - we had breakfast out there one sunday in february and she said, “we should paint this red!” and so we painted it red that day on a whim!

the other half of that room would be the dining area - or my computer workstation, most of the time =) there are usually more papers out there but school is out so no more paperwork for me!  oh, and auntie zenie gave me that table from her old house as my housewarming present.  there’s a shadowbox in the middle of the table (currently housing orange scented potpourri) and it’s pretty nifty

from the other end of the room, you can see the barstools (gift from kuya garry), and the kitchen.  it came with a brand new maytag dishwasher, refrigerator, and stove.

ok, then… going upstairs, you come up to a small hallway in between the two bedrooms.  the view is facing what was rita’s bedroom

no pics of rita’s bedroom, but this is what it looks like after she vacated it

and her 1/2 bath, as viewed from her bedroom

that door in the background?  that leads to my bathroom.  since that bathroom is only a 1/2 bath, she would share the tub in my bathroom.  so basically there are 1.5 bathrooms jack-and-jill’ed between the two rooms upstairs.  so here’s my view of the bathroom from my room.  i have blue and brown towels and matching rug, and i thought it was sooo cool i was matching before i saw jill’s bathroom.  but hey, it’s mine and it’s clean =)

and last but not least, my bedroom.  if you can tell, the lady before me had a ton of mirrors all over the place - at the headboard, lining the wall where i’m standing, etc.  oh, and i’m standing in the walk-in closet.  WALK-IN CLOSET!!!  that still makes me happy =)

and the last pic is of the curtains i sewed to put a little bit more color into my room and also to hide the computer nook in the side of the room.  the bookcase and the computer desk are behind this curtain but i don’t like staring at it every day and so i made this curtain =)

i still have lots to do (especially in my room, as the small tv is sitting on the box, i have a tv tray for a bedside table, and i have no lamps in there), but that’s what this summer is for!  and it’s all mine! =)

i hope you enjoyed the tour!

catching up on movies

what with jill’s netflix account, some other movies lent by friends and an unprecedented amount of time at home, i’ve done some catching up on chick flicks this past week.

  • because i said so - this one was ok…
  • the holiday - pretty good…
  • music and lyrics - most reviews i heard of this movie weren’t that good, but i guess i was just in the right mood to enjoy it.  and this song has been so stuck in my head that i just re-watched the movie to hear it again
  • stranger than fiction - once again, i watched it twice.  the guy in blockbuster said it wasn’t funny, but i thought it was.  it just wasn’t slapstick funny like all of will ferrell’s other movies, so that meant i loved it more =)
  • pride and prejudice with keira knightley

i still have a few more movies on loan that i have to watch but currently i’m working on home improvement and i’m watching hgtv.

while you’re waiting for my house pics you can just listen to the song above =)

friendster, myspace, multiply, hi5, now facebook?

my roommate and my brother both use my accounts on these websites because they don’t wanna get their own… and i understand why.  i’m not really into these find-your-friend websites.  yet… i do have a friendster account cuz it was the first one and i thought it’d be nice to say hi to my friends that way.

then myspace turned out to be the better way to keep in touch with what my students were doing.  plus i found so many old friends and classmates through it.  i don’t even use my friendster account anymore.

then i joined multiply cuz my multiply was the easiest way to share photo albums.

then i found out all my friends from ecuador were on hi5, so of course i had to join that.  i found my “hermanas” and my “primas” there - found out that one of them had kids, while the younger sisters are now done with high school.  was it really that long ago?

now i’m getting requests from wrm (who remembers me?) and facebook.

but i really would rather have my friends find me by googling my name - i mean, this blog should be the first thing that shows up when you do that.  plus, if i’m on myspace and multiply and hi5 then how much trouble can any one person have finding me?

but even though i’ve held off for this long and ignore the multiple requests form wrm and facebook, and as much as i don’t really like the entire genre of websites, i’m still grateful for all the friends i’ve lost throughout time that i’ve reconnected with thru these websites.

cuz let’s face it - i’m not the best person to keep in touch.  in fact, i’m the person that gathers everyone’s email address then never emails anyone!  i lose phone numbers, i don’t call many people and i was never good at being pen pals.  brandy has called ecuador so many times and has even gone back to visit and i… well, i’m just happy i found their pages on hi5 so that i can see what my ecuadorian family is doing =)

so even though i don’t really wanna be part of those web communities, i’m so ever grateful for being able to find my friends again.

breaking and entering

so on friday i locked myself outta the house.

jill was already in laguna and wasn’t coming home till monday morning.

i was stuck outside my house, out of my car, with all my luggage already packed into the car, and with shelia waiting in grand terrace for me.

i quickly called up gary, my locksmith, but was going to have to wait an hour or two for him to show up, and so i called another friend to see if we could eat dinner at maria’s while waiting for gary to show up.  thankfully, we were just able to break and enter into my place, and i was able to find my keys and everything was right with the world.  i sooo desperately wished that gary had taught me a thing or two about picking locks....

and then on saturday, while hanging out at my brother’s apartment after taylor’s party, i got my wish!

his neighbor had a whole “learn to pick locks” set that he brought over to my brother’s place and amidst dark chocolates and cheese and crackers, my brother, ate donna, and i all learned how to pick a lock with 1-5 pins in it.  here’s josh showing us the design behind a one-pin lock.

and then i tried to pick open my brother’s front door.  and i tried in vain!  i couldn’t do it.

but… i’m hoping that if i ever lock myself out of my house again, then i potentially have the skill (and the bobby pins in my hair!) to be able to do it.

actually, i’m just hoping that i never lock myself out of my house again =)

congratulations, taylor!

so taylor graduated from san gabriel academy about 2 weeks ago but they had the family party last night in glendale, and that was a lot of fun seeing family out there =)

she had the chocolate dipped fortune cookies from panda inn, where she works.  and my mom is just very silly and used her foil as a grill…

jordan and d’mitri don’t really know who i am, so they were suspect of me taking this picture of them.  i like it cuz mom’s in the background and great-grandma is also watching over them!

andrew stayed outside with the younger kids and connor was climbing all over him (while jordan -still- wouldn’t smile for me)

my brother and josh, our first (therefore oldest) nephew.

me and taylor.  congratulations to you!!  you are going to have SO MUCH FUN at puc =)

i'm a free woman!!!

as of friday circa 3pm.

i turned in my grades, turned off the lights to my classroom, and turned in my keys to the front office.  then i walked out the door and down the walkway and hugged my co-workers bye outside my car.

and now i’m currently unemployed!

it’s actually a pretty cool feeling not having anyone “own” me, not for next school year, not for the summer, etc.  i decided to revel in that feeling till monday and then start the job search then.  no, that’s not entirely true.  i have been job searching but the job that i really want wasn’t going to start interviewing until after graduation, so i figured i’d call them on monday and set up my interview with them.  and i don’t need to stress about it… i can just enjoy this time right now.

i finally have time to myself!! it’s such a new feeling i have no idea what to do with myself.  i have no board meetings to be at, no extra-curricular activities i’m responsible for, no papers to grade nor record, no lesson plans to create, and i finally have time on my hands.

what should i do?

the return of the wednesday night dinner

it has been about three months since wednesday night dinner so abruptly ended… but it’s the end of the school year and i have a bit more time now, so i made lentils and ceviche and fed jayson, kat, chad, and gary.  it was a small but core group of people i felt comfortable having over here =) oh, and we had some ice cream cupcakes (chocolate cupcakes that i baked, cut the tops off of, filled with mint and chip ice cream, replaced the top, and froze individually wrapped so everyone could eat one).  they were yummy.

and we played ‘tres dos’!

it sure was nice to have people over again…

it was definitely a nice surprise waiting for me as i left the school…

i still don’t know who did it but i’m keeping it on till graduation this thursday =)
