and then i bought guitar hero 3
having a wii rocks! i’ve bought 4 games for it already (if you don’t count wii sports, which would be game 5) and i’ve only had it for a week. this is gonna get quite expensive!!! ahhh… but i still haven’t spent as much as if i bought a ps3, so that’s a relief!
it’s a good thing the volleyball season is about to end… cuz i’m gonna be spending quite a bit of time finishing these games! i can’t wait till ppl come over and play guitar hero iii w me!!!

thankful...
i am thankful:
...that even though my mom and her cousin got into a traumatic car accident, they are both safe and home. no major injuries, which is really good considering what happened.
...for my friends and family who respond to my texts with prayers for my family.
...even though i’m hurting inside because i know that it can only get better.
...for my friends who’ll sit in a room with me not saying anything, not only cuz they know that i need company right now, but because they like to spend time with me too.
...to God for taking care of my family, and to my family for getting together for a “thanksgiving” worship -after- an accident. my mom’s family really has a great support group.
...just because.
tomorrow will be a better day. it just has to be.

school cancelled due to the fires
the fires have surrounded colton in ontario, fontana, and san bernardino. i know we haven’t been threatened by anything, not like the people living in the cajon pass or up in arrowhead, but we have been living through the rain of ashes and the clouds of smoke. it was particularly bad on monday and tuesday, and all of us were wondering why we had the students walking around campus breathing in the harmful ashes. i get to hide out in my room and i don’t have to walk anywhere all day long, but they have to walk all across campus all the time.
so finally my district gave in and gave them the time off school because of the hazardous conditions. i would have preferred to stay home on monday and tuesday and had classes the rest of the week, but i guess 2 days off is 2 days off. time to recover from having to teach while inhaling ashes and smoke!
so all of a sudden i have a 4 day weekend. i think marlene and i were gonna try to volunteer to help those who have been evacuated…

first student sighting
for me, living in colton and teaching in colton meant that i had a 7 minute commute, which i love.
however, it also means that i live in the same neighborhoods as my students, and i was wondering how long it would take before i would run into students near my house. i also knew that the neighbor kids of mine that sit in their garage and say hi to me every time i come home… i figured they must be high school students.
well, yesterday when i came home early, trying to hide out in my house away from all the ash and smoke, i saw my student “junior” standing with those students in their garage. in the garage next to mine! and i got out of my car, looked at him shocked, and he was like, ‘what!” as if it was normal for us to see each other there. so i just said hi and pointed to my house… and he was like, yeah, i know.
ok…
it’s weird to be seen when you’re not wearing the ‘teacher hat’. i remember one time when i was subbing in grand terrace, i went to the supermarket over the summer in shorts and a tank top. one of the students from the junior high remembered me and said “hi miss puen!” in the aisles and pointed me out to her mom. i immediately wanted to change into slacks and a button down shirt!! i dunno why… i just don’t like looking un-professional. it wasn’t that way at grove, but i think that was more casual anyways since they called me “math kim”.
in the traditional school though, it seems somehow wrong to be a “normal” person.
i wonder how many students have seen me in the local supermarket and just haven’t said hi yet....

i bought a Wii!!
yup… i got a bonus for going to “buy back day” - which is basically a voluntary teacher inservice. i didn’t need to go to work, and i almost didn’t, but i got a bonus for attending the training, and i got up early this morning to spend it on a nintendo Wii =)
i really don’t splurge on myself alot but i’ve wanted this for a long long time and i figure i earned it with that small bonus, so what the heck, i’m gonna splurge on myself =) hahahah… about a year after everyone else did. but that’s ok, cuz i’ve finally got one of my own.
i’ve named it kiWii.
and my mii is named kiMii.
you like it, don’tcha =)

first sickness of the year
ughhh.... it had to happen. i knew it was coming. normally teachers get sick sometime in the first few weeks cuz they’re exposed to all sortsa germs that the students drag in. and then we’re dealing with the long hours -and- the weather change! i’ve been fending off this sickness for over a week, though tired all the time, but once the weather changed and i was continuously shivering, i knew it was gonna hit.
last night was when it went into full effect - it’s mostly just inflamed tonsils. i’m pushing water, vitamin c, echinacea, and i even drank a garlic clove last night too. i’m gonna be stinky today too!
yeah… and i still have to work. today we’re taking team picture, so i have to be at school. tomorrow we have a game and i really wanna be there too. wednesday might be my first real chance at recovery! plus, i don’t even know how to call for a sub yet, so that’s crazy. i can’t -not- be at school, cuz i don’t have a replacement.

i got my check!!
i did it! i picked up my check from the front office, i went to deposit it during my prep period, and now i’m SOOOO happy! no more destitution, no more poverty, no more taco bell and/or ramen because i can’t afford anything else. taco bell and ramen are only for when i want it now (which is still pretty often!)
the check is safely tucked away in my bank account, making sure none of my bills and checks bounce.
-sigh of relief- you would not believe the happiness that can arise from that stress lifted off my shoulders =)
anyone wanna go eat? my treat!!!
